Adventure Awaits!

The ethos of Adventure Sailing is the antithesis of Holiday Cruising.

On these trips, we have the option to push the boundaries to discover what we and our boat are capable of, with a destination or an objective in mind.

Open the door to adventure...

Mile-Building

Our Adventure Sails are ideal for anyone looking to build experience and confidence in more exposed waters. We aim to include 60+ mile passages for those building up to Yachtmaster, with mentoring along the way.

 Food and Drink

Accepting that we’re going to sea in what might be quite “lumpy” conditions, we have a quality prepared, simplified menu which can realistically be delivered under sail by the crew - and this is all part of the experience! We provide soft drinks and wine for the table when we’re tied along side.

Setting Sail

Depending on the weather forecast and the group’s ambitions, sailing overnight as needed, we could find ourselves anywhere from Belfast Lough or the Isle of Man in the South, Donegal in the West or Islay and Jura to the North.

Alternatively, we often sail between Largs and Oban or vice versa for a challenging tidal coastal adventure round the Mull of Kintyre, possibly through the Corryvreckan and the Sound of Luing.

I wanted freedom, open air, adventure. I found it on the sea. -Alain Gerbault

For this kind of sailing, we head southwards from Largs towards the North Channel and the Mull of Kintyre where we can expect to experience strong tides, with overfalls and inevitably at some point, wind against tide conditions.

"I was expecting beans on toast …. what we got was locally sourced quality ingredients and first class meals."

William, October 25

We offer a range of popular, high quality, classic dishes.

When Adventure sailing, there is nothing more satisfying than sitting down to a hearty meal in the evening. Heading to bed with a full tummy and a day's hard work behind you leads to a great night's sleep.

With that in mind, we have adapted our Adventure Sailing menu to work whist underway, so it's simpler than our Holiday Cruises but uses the same quality of locally-sourced ingredients.

Epic Adventures. Exceptional Comfort.

Start Point

Departing from Largs Yacht Haven gives us a great base to explore the North Channel, Mull of Kintyre and beyond, while still being easy to reach by public transport or car.

One-way Adventure Sails between Largs and Oban have minibus transport provided from the destination to the start of the cruise so that cars can be strategically parked for a convenient departure.

Group Size

A maximum of 4 guests for our adventure cruises, plus Skipper and Mate ensures we’re not crammed in and everyone has personal space for that all-important “timeout”.

We have 2 double cabins and 1 single cabin. The double cabins can be made up as either twin or doubles, depending on the needs of your group.

It was great to have Donal on-board, and the planning/logistics he undertook for the catering & boat handover at the beginning and end of the cruise made it very enjoyable and stress free.

What's different?

On our adventure sails, you’ll always find both a skipper and a mate aboard — not just for good company, but because Sea Fever Sailing operates to the safety and crew-competence standards set out in the MCA’s MGN 280 Code of Practice. This guidance requires appropriate manning for commercially operated vessels, ensuring there’s a qualified skipper at the helm and a capable mate supporting navigation, sail handling, safety management, and smooth running of the voyage. In practice? It means better teamwork, safer sailing, and more time for you to enjoy the adventure while our crew keeps everything shipshape.

Experience Required

Adventure Sails often involve longer passages in exposed water  and may at times be “a bit much” for complete novices in windy conditions. We ask that Adventure Sail clients have done some sailing before and at least have an idea what to expect when the boat starts to heel over and go fast in waves!
